Barbera is a grape from Italy, where it is made into the quintessential "wine of the people." However, it is also now grown in Chile, where the climate and terrior are perfectly suited to this unique grape! With a thin skin, low tannins and relatively high acidity that causes sugars to rise significantly while the grapes wait on the vine, Barbera wines are generally enjoyed fairly young, and are only aged from 2 to 4 years on the outside. While Barbera has berry notes of dark cherry, dried strawberry, plum and blackberry, it tends to lean toward savory characteristics, with lavender and violet notes that play with spicy flavors of vanilla, nutmeg and anise.
