2016A complex and fruity aroma hop, Hallertau Blanc was bred from Cascade parentage in Germany to be an aroma hop for American-style beers. It is very fruity yet clean, exhibiting aromas of exotic fruits and herbs such as pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit, elderflower and grape. It has been described as wine-like, resembling the scent and flavor of Sauvignon Blanc. Hallertau Blanc has also been described as having similarities with Souther Hemisphere hops. It works well in a range of beers, especially American craft ales. It is best used at the end of the boil, in the whirlpool, or as a dry hop. This hop has shown promise as a substitute for Nelson Sauvin.
