Merkur are a relatively new variety of hop developed at the Hull Institute in Germany. It is a high-alpha and low co-humulone hop varietal that was created by breeding German Magnum with an experimental hop plant. The resulting hops are tropical and herbal, with flavor and aroma notes of sugar, pineapple and mint. As a dual purpose hop, Merkur can be used both for bittering and adding flavor and aroma by using late in the boil or as a dry hop. An interesting hop varietal, Merkur has a lot of potential in your home brew!
