Mexican Lager yeast from White Labs has been reported as being a strain from the Modelo brewery in Mexico City. It is most commonly used to make light Mexican lagers in the style of Corona. However, it is truly a versatile strain! Vienna-style lagers, much like Negro Modelo, turn out wonderfully when fermented with this strain, as do many dark lagers and richer fest-style lagers, like bocks, doppelbocks, Oktoberfests and Marzens. White Labs calls this one of the best lager strains in their inventory and encourages experimentation with it. Brewers describe it as a clean strain with a crisp finish, and are overwhelmingly pleased with the results when using it.
