Got a sluggish wine fermentation? Yeast hulls may be just what you need to help get your stuck fermentation going again! Yeast hulls are essentially the remains of dead yeast cells. While it may seem like a stretch to add dead yeast to wine to get it going again, winemakers have been doing this for years, and for good reason. Yeast hulls can help fermentations by absorbing toxic by-products of fermentation in the wine. They are also beneficial to juice mixtures lacking in oxygen, as they contribute sterols and unsaturated fatty acids that help improve cell viability. To use, mix the yeast hulls with water to make a slurry before adding. Recommended usage is 0.5 to 0.9 grams per gallon of wine. Get stuck fermentations going and improve the health of your yeast with yeast hulls!
